Bathtime

Sophie loves bath time, maybe because after the bath she gets to snuggle up in her elephant towel.

Snow Day

When this is the scene from our front door,

This is how we soon find ourselves occupying our time.

But we are now big enough that we are holding our own bottle.

Happy New Year

You look at New Year's Eve through different glasses when you become a father. Gone are the glittery plastic glasses with champagne flute shaped frames. While on the way to the pharmacy to pick up a new filter for the humidifier , you change channels when the radio airs a commercial for a multiple nightclub party package.
"Just $75 gets you VIP treatment at all five clubs bringing in the New Year right at the Lakeview Entertain," CLICK.
A few channels later, you almost do the same when you hear an ad saying that AAA is once again offering free towing to those who have had too much to drink while celebrating on New Year's Eve, but then you don't because you also look at life a bit differently now. You stop and think about how precious and fleeting life can be. You realize how much you miss your wife and child while doing some little holiday related errands, so you cut a few of them short and get home as soon as you can.
When you get home, you pick up your baby and just hold her to you. Feeling her breathe. Feeling her warmth. Smelling her as you nuzzle the back of her neck not caring when she spits up on another shirt. The little stains she has left on your right shoulder are the pale grey badge of fatherhood that you wear so proudly.
And as you sit down to rock her, you tell your wife about the curious interaction you had with everyone in the stores you visited while you were out. Everyone wanted to know what your big plans were for New Year's Eve. One guy was heading for Tipitina's in New Orleans as soon as he got off work. The lady at Office Depot hadn't decided what she was going to do yet. She was keeping her options open. The kid at the pharmacy was going to "hang with Emily". You told them all you didn't have anything big planned, but you knew that wasn't the case. You had a bigger night planned than any of them, in your opinion. You were spending your first New Year's with your wife and daughter and you were planning and resolving for the next year as a father. And honestly, it was the best New Year's of your life, even without the glittery glasses.
